CHRYSALIS
Inspired by technical advancement, Chrysalis gestures to advancing technology and the solutions it gives rise to.
As our natural and social systems deplete we look to technology, to modify, to evolve - to recreate our immediate world.
As man's relationship with nature alters, communities and societies realign, adapting to face the future.
Natural World
Temperatures rose…
Glacier and ice sheets melted…
Greenhouse gases expanded ocean waters…
Coastlines disappeared…
Land is scarce…
Agile, responsive, adaptable…
Structures that grow organically…
build themselves…
that respond to need…
Chrysalis…
Technology
Future architecture will face conflicting challenges, Manmade problems will seek technology-driven solutions and space will find a new definition and new direction. Evolving architecture will create dynamic adaptation, responding to environmental and social change.
Critical Design
Critical design takes a critical theory-based approach to design, using design fiction and speculative design proposals to challenge assumptions and conceptions about the role objects play in everyday life. It does not emphasize an object’s commercial purpose or physical utility.
It is used to share a critical perspective or inspire debate while increasing awareness of social, cultural, or ethical issues. Critical design was popularized by Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby through their firm, Dunne & Raby.
Chrysalis is rooted in this discourse.
