AUGUR by LOCO DESIGN
Materiology, a term coined from the idea of taking a diverse palette of materials and expressing through them a tale that transcends the boundaries of current trends - materials being the tools, designers being time-travellers, and partners being the presenters of expressions.
Presented by STIR, curated by Amit Gupta and Pramiti Madhavji, the first edition of Materiology, held in 2019, interpreted an important inquiry - What Happens When Tomorrow Becomes Today?
Launched at Materiology by STIR Events, Augur is an interactive fortune telling concept designed and crafted for the event. The challenging brief set by the curators asked designers to ‘define their abstract of what the future holds’, with creations taking on a chosen materiality. The piece triggered a performative interaction between participants on the twists and turns of life.
Parminder Pal Singh, co-founding director, talks about the inspiration behind Augur, ‘We chose leather which is one of our strengths in terms of material and the aesthetic that inspired us was that of the Game of Thrones. Architectural details of castles, medieval detailing, the use of metal features all gesture to this aesthetic. Whether it be personal or professional, you always reach a point where there are certain choices that you have to make but that choice is in your hands. That’s about taking chances in life and taking your path and reaching a certain destination and that destination is what your future is’.
